In this thesis, a new type of eco-friendly construction material so-called boroaluminosilicate geopolymer concrete is developed and investigated. The production of Ordinary Portland Cement emits huge amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and consumes abundant natural resources. However, Geopolymers are newly developed construction materials that not only are less harmful to the environment but also possess competitive characteristics to the conventional concrete. In this thesis, certain industrial by-product, fly ash and iron-making slag for instance, are utilised to develop boroaluminosilicate geopolymer using boron-based activator. The product is more eco-friendly and sustainable.
