This research investigated the impact of touchscreen and other digital media on young children's play, learning, and development. Utilising systematic and narrative literature reviews alongside empirical studies, it examined whether children could acquire knowledge via screen-based media and assessed the implications for social interactions, play, and overall well-being. Findings indicated positive educational outcomes from touchscreen use and nuanced effects on parent-child interactions. This research highlighted the importance of a multifaceted approach integrating developmental psychology, learning theories, and public health to optimise children’s digital media use and offers critical insights for educators and caregivers for enhancing developmental outcomes in the digital age.
