Quantum cascade lasers have the advantages inherent to semiconductor lasers. They have very different operating principles than conventional semiconductor lasers which enables them to emit mid-to far-infrared light. Mid-and far-infrared light sources are of interest because of their important and wide ranging applications such as chemical sensing and communication. Thus, it is of interest to study the modulation properties of QCLs, leading to these applications. This study involves the investigation of the effect of various laser parameters on the performance of the laser along with the comparison of the behaviour of the laser with conventional semiconductor laser.
