This practice-led PhD in writing consists of a literary speculative novel accompanied by a thesis that positions itself between the creative work and the audience to clarify practice. Postmodernism, queer theory, narratology and psychoanalytic thinking inform the thesis, which also borrows from Simone de Beauvoir's concepts of ambiguity, embodiment, the self and other. Together, the thesis and the novel pay attention to embedded short stories and literary writing in speculative fiction. The portfolio aligns with the notion of play in the language of writing, and draws lessons from theorists like Roland Barthes, who found pleasure in the text.
