This thesis investigated the effects of residents' perceptions of tourism impact and community participation on the intention to support tourism development in the context of Bangladesh. Social Exchange Theory was used as the theoretical foundation, and sets out to validate the nature of the effects between the constructs. A quantitative survey was conducted and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The information of this thesis can be useful for the development of tourism industry in rural settings. Thus, the produced knowledge would provide benefit that might be helpful to the government, policy-makers, local authorities, and civil societies.
