This clinical study was set out to identify biomarkers in the blood which would indicate the presence and degree of calcification in the coronary artery. Conducted with 384 Malaysian adults with suspected coronary artery disease, the study has contributed in outlining and validating the relationship between the biomarkers and coronary artery calcification as well as traditional risk factors. With a simple blood test for these biomarkers on top of routine assessment of traditional risk factors, doctors could better estimate one's risk of coronary artery disease and strategise better prevention in a timely manner.
