This thesis investigated the influence of the Islamic leadership principles of al-amanh, shura and itqan, and the Arab tribal values of wasta, ayb and karam on leadership excellence in Jordan. Given that wasta and ayb are perceived to be negatively related to leadership excellence, leaders’ mindfulness was proposed to mitigate these relationships. The results demonstrated positive relationships between the Islamic principles and leadership excellence and negative relationships between wasta and ayb and leadership excellence. However, mindfulness was found to strengthen these negative relationships. Accordingly, the thesis draws contributions to theory and practice. Particularly to those in the Middle East.
