This PhD research aimed to improve understanding of the relationships between gastroparesis, psychological factors, and quality of life. The research identifies psychological processes that can influence health outcomes in gastroparesis, includes the first evaluation of the Common Sense Model in a gastroparesis cohort, and documents the development and pilot testing of an online psychological intervention for individuals with gastroparesis. The work highlights the potential value of including mental health assessment and treatment in medical programs for gastroparesis sufferers, and provides preliminary evidence for the feasibility of an online psychological intervention program to help support individuals living with gastroparesis.
