Inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic gastrointestinal condition with an unpredictable course and can lead to difficulties for patients, including physical symptoms (e.g., abdominal pain, bloody stools), medication side effects and diagnostic concerns. This research is designed to explore the prevalence of trauma in this cohort and the impact on patient outcomes. The Common Sense Model was extended to assess the impact of trauma on the relationship between disease activity and patient outcomes. The research contributes to IBD psychosocial research by identifying the prevalence of trauma in this cohort, importance of screening and appropriate treatment referral and the subsequent impact on patient outcomes.
