This thesis presents the generation of coherent extreme ultraviolet radiation through the frequency up-conversion of a visible laser in a gas medium. We use this source to study the structure of the atoms in the gas, as well as to further develop new microscopy imaging techniques. Using the coherent diffractive imaging method with a 30 nanometre light source, an image of the sample can be resolved with a resolution down to 45 nanometres.
