Drawing on institutional logics as a meta-theory – as well as conceptions of high-involvement work practices and social exchange theory – this research examines how social enterprises in Vietnam mobilise resources, organise their operations and work towards fulfilling their social mission while maintaining their financial sustainability. The findings of the thesis may benefit the social enterprise community in Vietnam, as well as other developing countries, which still struggle to fulfil their dual goals of social mission and financial sustainability. It also responds to the lack of empirical research on social enterprise in general and in diverse world contexts in particular.
