Through an analysis of academic uses of the terminology rape culture, this thesis contributes to feminist and sociological understandings of rape culture and gender based sexual violence. Employing a critical, intersectional lens, this work examines gendered sexual violence and rape culture in contemporary Australian and analogisable cultures within the Anglosphere. Drawing on foundational feminist works and gender theory, this thesis is a development of an integrative theory of rape culture, heteronormativity and gender.
