This study contributes to the development of an empirical and systematic training needs model for improving the exports performance of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The research outcomes are anticipated to be helpful for training providers to develop effective training programs for SME managers. This nationwide study will enable the Vietnam Government to use these findings to develop strategies and provide supports for internationalisation of SMEs. Further, this study is expected to contribute to the body of knowledge on human resources development capacity building in the SME sector in developing countries including Vietnam.
