Carbon dots, a class of fluorescence nanoparticles, were modified for detection of bacteria in water. The carbon dots were synthesised by heating lactose solution at high temperature (200°C) with the presence of acid, which were then neutralised and extracted. After extraction, surface modification of carbon dots was carried out and the modified carbon dots were used for detection of bacteria in water.
