In recent years, there is a growing need for location aware systems such as inventory tracking and logistics, safety and security, navigational and tracking systems and etcetera. However, the accuracy of the current technology such as GPS is limited to outdoor environments. Despite the advancement of GPS, there is still a huge gap in the area of study for indoor location aware systems. Advancement in Wi-Fi and its wide acceptance has made it an attractive candidate for this study. This study proposes a design and proof of concept of a low cost and robust indoor positioning algorithm using Wi-Fi technology.
