This study investigates wave parameters and climatology through means of seismic noise in the Indian Ocean/North West Coast of Australia. Within this region, as parameters of the wind-generated waves are predominantly determined by tropical cyclones, the study predominantly focuses on extreme waves, though is also an investigation of the statistical and physical features of cyclones.
Seismic data is new means in analysing cyclone waves, which enables a study of more diverse assessments and a better understanding of the tropical cyclone wave characteristics and as well their morphing with a changing climate. Characteristics such as wave fields and wave heights are observed and interpreted, defining the tropical cyclone mechanisms and further teleconnections influencing them.
