People with Anorexia Nervosa (AN) have an increased mortality rate, mainly ascribed to cardiovascular complications. This thesis aimed to assess cardiovascular risk and autonomic nervous system function associated with AN. Increased cardiovascular risk and altered autonomic nervous system activity were observed in people with a current, and previous, diagnosis of AN, compared to healthy controls. These findings demonstrate that there are long-term consequences associated with AN that have important implications for understanding the cardiovascular risk associated with AN, as well as monitoring and treatment for people following a diagnosis of AN.
