One of the prominent issues with the connection of renewable power sources to the power grid is islanding. Islanding is a scenario when a utility grid with a renewable power source is disconnected from the power network and its renewable energy source and associated loads become an island.
The research reported in this thesis aims to identify the inadequacy of popular islanding detection methods and introduces a novel Weighted Sum Multiscale Mathematical Morphology Method for islanding detection to improve the detection accuracy and responsiveness. This method has the ability to suppress noise in the input signal and has a zero non detection zone.
