Using a mix method approach, this thesis researched Australian parents for their values, attitudes and beliefs associated with their young children’s learning in the daily context. The main implication of this study is the conceptualisation of the Actiotope Model of Parent-Child Engagement. This model confirms that for parents to effectively engage with their young children, they must be cognisant of their own knowledge and skills, as well as their children’s abilities. This awareness empowers parents to support their children’s learning in ways that position them as effective first educators of children and contribute to successful later outcomes for their children.
