The knowledge of location provides a critical source of information such as positioning, navigating and visualisation. The concept of location has been considered as an integrative concept that needs to be specified in a sharable manner. This thesis discusses the practice and challenges of international road authorities and their stakeholders in managing their location-data throughout various phases of road asset management (from design to operation). Using a case study of a road network in Sarawak, Malaysia, the thesis shows the benefit of a new potential location-referencing system (LRS) that better integrates all types of road-data from the emergent digital-engineering technologies.
