Management of Closed Landfills – A Case Study of Victoria, Australia

An exploratory study based on literature was conducted on the post closure management of closed small landfills in Victoria. The findings showed that the implementation of rehabilitation and aftercare, particularly in regional Victoria, was less than desirable due to the lack of historical regulatory requirements and funding over the years. A separate study on risk screening tools was performed to examine and validate four selected methodologies used for screening potential risks of multiple closed landfill sites.
