Methane is the main component of nature gases and is currently used for heating and electric power generation by combustion, which is unfriendly to the environment as the released carbon dioxide and unburned methane increase the greenhouse effect. This project targets on the problems of methane oxidation to methanol at low temperature, which is not only a scientific frontier issue but also relevant to industrial methane utilization. Methanol is a raw material in chemistry and its wider application is limited by its high price. Therefore, exploring new routes for methane oxidation to methanol means a lot to our society.
