Filtration of the blood in the critically ill aims to mimic renal function in the event of renal failure. There is limited research in the adult population and less in paediatric population. This thesis aims to determine, in the paediatric population, if there is a preferred method for anticoagulating and priming the extra corporeal circuit used, investigate the haemodynamic instability observed in some patients upon initiation of therapy and review 20 years of treatment data.
