I have completed PhD degree in multidisciplinary Engineering area (Biomedical, Materials Science, and Mechanical Engineering) from Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), Australia. Thermal spray hydroxyapatite coatings have been widely used for bone and hip replacements due to its good biocompatibility and bioactivity and similar properties like bone. But the mechanical properties of the coatings are very weak. As a result, a rigorous mechanical properties analysis has been completed and then thermal spray coatings have been modified by sol-gel coatings to improve the coatings properties for biomedical applications in this thesis.
