This research evaluated the merits of an emerging mode of the technology-driven on-demand public transport system. The research included the development of state-of-the-art traffic simulation tools, supplemented by travel behavioural surveys, machine learning and artificial intelligence methodologies, to test and compare performance against existing public transport systems. The modelling results demonstrated the superior performance of these new modes of public transport in the context of a case study for Melbourne and identified the success factors for their deployment as part of sustainable transport solutions for cities around the world.
