This thesis presents results from two randomised controlled trials investigating the effects of a multivitamin/mineral supplement on both the chronic and acute effects of multi vitamins in healthy older adults. No long-term benefits to mood and cardiovascular health were observed, however changes in blood biomarkers and acute mood improvements suggest a possible role for multivitamins in reducing risk factors of cardiovascular disease and mood dysfunction, as well as immediate improvements in mood and stress. Overall, the results indicate that multivitamins may be more effective for improving mood in the hours following ingestion rather than accumulative effects over time.
