Next-generation Industrial Internet of Things Providing Efficient Cyber Twins-based Realization of Industry 4.0

This dissertation advances efficient Industry 4.0 application development for manufacturing by introducing a) Cyber Twins (CTs) for digitally representing machines b) the TwinWorks platform for supporting CT generation and management and support using CTs in Industry 4.0 applications, c) a cost model for Industry 4.0 application cost-benefit evaluation and d) a proof-of-concept implementation and evaluation of the TwinWorks platform and CTs for two industrial use cases from manufacturing industry, demonstrating the benefits of the proposed solution.
