Shape memory alloy, which has been discovered since 1970, has gain its popularity as the demand of the alloy has widen from not only medical field but also as a new generation space exploration age material. Its unique characteristic called shape memory effect bizarrely allows the alloys to have multiple mechanical properties based on the temperature of operation. The demands in the novel space rover wheel design have pushed the industry forward by experimenting with new materials and designs. This thesis focuses on the implementation of the shape memory alloy into the novel space rover wheel for extra-terrestrial applications.
