Several different pathways transmit information from the retina to the brain. One major pathway prefers slow, yet detailed input, and the other major pathway prefers fast, yet coarse input. This research used non-invasive techniques to study electrophysiological signals from the brain. Responses arising from the two major visual pathways were studies separately, based on their different temporal sensitivities. The findings highlight the importance of using complementary techniques to investigate the early stages of visual processing.
