This work was focused on the design and characterisation of new titanium-based alloys, with the goal of developing strong yet flexible alloys suitable for use in orthopaedic implants such as hip and knee replacements. The hope is that with their high strength, low stiffness, and excellent biological response, the work performed in developing these materials may directly or indirectly help to greatly increase the lifespans of future orthopaedic implants.
