Optimising the Properties of Polymer Brushes to Control Bacterial and Cell Growth

Create a new set of bio material surfaces which can implant inside the human body using PEG brushes that preserve the activity of adsorbed proteins by avoiding denaturation and/or by controlling their orientation at interfaces in order to promote cell attachment and at the same time resist bacterial attachment in order to eliminate infection and contamination in tissue culture. This was achieved by quantitatively determining how the nanoscale properties of modified surfaces impact the immobilisation and their activity, in order to assist in the guided design of novel surfaces Different biomedical applications for this project includes, tissue engineering, biosensing, antifouling and drug delivery system.
