Recovering the rare earth elements namely Neodymium, Praseodymium and Dysprosium from End of Life permanent magnets are becoming increasingly important. This research investigate the behavior of these magnets in the high temperature oxidation in recycling process. The research provide important information on microstructural evolution and kinetic analysis at high temperature 773-1573 K (500-1300 °C) and revealed that oxidation of the End of Life magnets highly influenced the recovery rate of different high temperature recycling/recovery techniques. The study also highlighted the formation of rare earth ortho-ferrites and proposed a process to recover rare earth after oxidation in air.
