Perfectionism and self-vulnerabilities in obsessive-compulsive and eating difficulties

Perfectionism is a well-documented vulnerability for development of numerous psychological disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder and disordered eating. Narisa's thesis identifies particular aspects of perfectionism that may influence the development of these disorders more than other aspects, as well as other self-vulnerabilities thought to underpin perfectionism. Narisa developed a model comparing the relative influence of general and specific perfectionism aspects and self-vulnerabilities with the severity of people's disorders. The findings of this thesis highlight important and specific aspects of perfectionism and self-vulnerability that may in future improve individualised cognitive therapies for treatment of people with OCD and disordered eating.
