Traditional suspension systems have fixed damping properties, and they provide a constant response to different road types. On the contrary, active suspension systems use linear motors to vary damping forces and its properties in real-time. The study demonstrates a force reduction in active suspension by comparing two control schemes, Linear Quadratic Regulator and Model Predictive Control on a quarter car active suspension model. The possibility of torque ripple and power reduction in active suspension was demonstrated by comparing two brushless motor drive schemes. This research will help in the improvement of the design and development of active suspension system.
