Australia has an emerging population of Hazaras, an ethnic group from Afghanistan, who have arrived on humanitarian visas and are of a refugee background. This thesis explores mental health and settlement for young adult Hazaras, including wellbeing, coping and help-seeking. Results show young Hazaras with family have positive wellbeing and resilience and were adapting to life in Australia. Relationships with family, friends and teachers suggest the importance of promoting social networks by educational settings, services and programs. Participants were not focusing on their past traumas, instead planning for, their futures in Australia, suggesting an avenue to explore with young Hazaras.
