Using laser light and magnetic fields Dr Mordovin cooled atoms to ultra-low temperatures when the atoms form a special state of matter - a Bose-Einstein condensate. Using a resonant radio-frequency radiation Dr Mordovin generated two-component condensates, forced pairs of atoms to bond into ultracold molecules and carried out precision measurements of molecular properties. This new accurate data on molecular energies helps to improve existing theoretical models.
