Reappraisal of the sauropod dinosaur taxa from the Upper Cretaceous Winton Formation of Queensland, Australia, through 3D digitisation and description of new specimens

Sauropods were massive herbivorous quadrupedal dinosaurs with small heads, long necks, and long tails. I described and digitally scanned thirteen sauropod specimens from the Winton Formation. Of these, ten specimens were assigned to "Diamantinasaurus matildae" (including a juvenile specimen), and one to "Savannasaurus elliottorum". One of the remaining two specimens, possibly represents a distinct taxon, and is currently kept in open nomenclature as Somphospondyli indet.; the other cannot be classified beyond Sauropoda indet. Thus, the Winton Formation sauropod fauna has been reduced from four species to two, with 21 specimens assigned to "D. matildae" and two to "S. elliottorum".
