Formal Thought Disorder (FTD) is a prominent symptom of psychosis, characterised by unusual speech patterns and communication issues, observed in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression. Despite its significance, FTD remains poorly understood. This research used mixed methods to investigate how to define, measure and treat FTD, as well as understand its impact on functioning. Findings emphasised the need for a standardised approach to classifying and measuring FTD before targeted treatment models can be developed. Achieving this will ultimately improve clinical care and quality of life for individuals affected.
