Reviving Taiwan's bamboo manufactured products sectors: a case for design-led industry renewal

The thesis examines the decline of bamboo product manufacturing in regional Taiwan, which has been overwhelmed by competition from low-cost countries. In investigating how to help companies move beyond the Original Equipment Manufacturer sub-contractor business model to develop their own products, the thesis proposes a staged program based on the Danish Design Ladder and harnessing the collaborative effort of industry, government and university stakeholders.
