Progress towards equality for women in Australia has been slow despite the Australian state having ratified international human rights laws since 1945. Through in-depth semi-structured interviews with 25 key Australian state informants, the thesis identifies the few successful policy outcomes instigated through international women's rights law to promote equality for women and explores how to build on successful policies in the areas of women's health, education, political and economic participation.
