Simulation-based optimisation and metamodeling of the Resin Transfer Moulding process for composite moulding

thesis
posted on 2024-07-29, 05:34 authored by Boon Xian ChaiBoon Xian Chai
Lately, contemporary process modelling and simulation for composite moulding have advanced remarkably, evolving from just an assistive design tool to playing a pivotal role in the optimisation of the Resin Transfer Moulding process. This thesis explores the integration of optimisation algorithms into process simulation models to supplement the placement optimisation of resin injection gates and air vents on the mould design, driven by their substantial influence on manufacturing efficiency and product quality. Additionally, strategies and contrivances to minimise the cost of simulation-based optimisation are proposed and discussed. Lastly, the adoption of metamodeling for composite moulding optimisation applications is also explored.
