In this thesis, the structure of the coppermaking slags and its correlation to the distribution ratio of Gallium (Ga) relevant to black copper smelting are studied. High temperature experiments were carried out at different slag chemistry, temperature and oxygen partial pressure to study the slag structures and distribution ratio of Ga in Fe2O3-CaO-SiO2 (FCS) slag to copper and also to study the correlation between them. Finally, the slag design criteria for the optimum recovery of valuable elements through black copper smelting process is suggested. These are important for both the fundamental understanding and industrial recovery of valuable elements from E-waste.
