The detection of malicious apps on the Android smartphone system has long been a critical challenge. While the industry and academia have spent numerous efforts in proposing various systems to detect these malicious apps, malicious apps are evolving to evade detection. This thesis studies how malicious apps evolve and how they leverage the vulnerabilities in existing detection systems to avoid detection. Understanding how malicious apps evolve and how they bypass existing detection will help researchers and malware analysts better address the issue of detecting malicious apps in an adversarial environment.
