The thesis provides a contribution to understanding the nature of lenticular galaxies in low-density environments from the analysis of the stellar, globular cluster and planetary nebulae kinematics reaching out to the outskirts of the galaxies, which are characterised by longer dynamical timescales and, thus, better preserve the signatures of the galaxy past formation histories. The thesis shows that the present-day kinematics of lenticular galaxies can have a wide range of different behaviours that are likely the result of merger events characterised by different orbital configurations, mass-ratio as well as gas fractions.
