Excessive applications of pesticides have been a concern to the community because very few monitoring measures are available to detect pesticide residues in the environment. This thesis describes the production of fluorescence carbon dots that can be applied as optical detection probes for organophosphate pesticide. The sensing of three organophosphate pesticide: malathion, methyl parathion, and paraoxon-ethyl was examined. Paraoxonase 1 enzyme was used to tag on the surface of carbon dots to investigate the sensitivity and selectivity of the new component to detect organophosphate pesticides. The signals obtained allow the calibration of future electronic sensing device for pesticide detection.
