Existing water management processes are increasingly under pressure to achieve sustainable objectives by overcoming ineffective policies, processes and procedures. Another significant challenge in achieving sustainable water management objectives is the traditional approach that primarily focuses on technical improvements. This study consequently surmised that institutional arrangements need to examine individual factors such as feelings, beliefs and behaviors based on social justice principles when striving to accomplish sustainable water management objectives. Therefore, this study examines the role of social justice in the context of sustainable water management, to examine the importance of increasing efficiency of the processes that contribute to social, economic and environmental sustainability.
