This thesis describes the role of Set7, an enzyme involved in gene activation, during the development of diabetic cardiovascular and renal disease. By using diverse experimental approaches, including animal models of diabetes, Set7 was identified as a mediator of early pathological changes observed in the vasculature and kidney in diabetes. The results presented here suggest that this enzyme could serve as a therapeutic target to attenuate the burden of diabetic complications.
