This research is significant because few intensive studies have been conducted on the topic of affordable and responsive housing design for flood areas of Vietnam. It is also important because it brings a firsthand understanding of local people's resilience to changes caused by annual floods in the Mekong River Delta. More significantly, the outcome of this research suggested a set of key design recommendations for housing design in flood-prone areas in the Mekong Delta region, Vietnam. Lessons from this study could also be extended and applied to other Southeast Asian countries whose people are threatened by floods.
