Hydrogen is a non-toxic, odourless, and colourless gas that can be used as a renewable clean energy source to replace traditional fossil fuels to avoid carbon emissions, air pollution, and climate change. Due to its high flammability and explosiveness, each step of hydrogen production, storage, transport, and use must be performed safely. Therefore, developing reliable, highly sensitive and selective H2 gas sensors plays a vital role in maintaining health and safety across the H2 supply chain. This PhD project has developed highly sensitive and selective hydrogen gas sensors employing two-dimensional nanomaterials.
