Motivating stakeholders to engage in sustainability projects to comply with government legislation can be challenging and require them to build trust to facilitate collaboration. It is particularly hard in contexts where people and organisations deal with unequal needs, capacities and access to quality information. However, this thesis demonstrates that people and organisations can build trust and collaborate in shared initiatives in challenging contexts motivated by satisfying their material and emotional/affective needs, including pursuing a purposive life. This thesis helps society by providing a fresh, creative way for the stakeholders to build trust-based collaborative relationships in sustainability initiatives.
